Bracing- Durable Medical Equipment

Bracing

Bracing is an effective form of treatment for certain orthopedic conditions. A brace, by restricting movement and relieving pressure, promotes healing, takes weight off an injured area, and provides post-operative support. Braces are commonly used to support the spine, knee, ankle and elbow.

Bracing is often used to treat the following:

  • Spinal fracture
  • Spinal trauma
  • Scoliosis
  • Kyphosis
  • Knee pain from a torn ACL, or from patellar tendonitis
  • Chronic ankle instability
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Cavus foot

Wearing braces while playing sports is sometimes recommended for adolescents or those with previous injuries. Braces work well to stabilize joints, particularly the knee joint and those found in the ankle, helping to prevent injuries often caused by high-impact activities.
